Vada likes to play with the clematis bush out front – it has really big blossoms!

swish and spit

The medicine we give Vada needs to be rinsed out of her mouth.  She’s having fun learning how to swish and spit.  :-)

I thought she looked especially cute in this outfit.  So much better than the day before, when she insisted on wearing tiny skin-tight yellow shorts (great under a dress, but not so flattering over a onesie!).

hanging out with ed & ashley

Our friends Ed and Ashley were visiting this weekend. We discovered that Ed is the best hula-hooper of all of us! Vada decided it was more fun to just play with it on the ground.

These are just a couple cute pictures from the weekend before our trip to the hospital. I didn’t want them to get lost behind that entry…

an even more exciting trip to the ER

Vada is fine, but she had another asthma episode on Tuesday. It was a little worse than last time, and late enough in the day that we ended up staying overnight in the hospital. And since we were heading to the hospital at rush hour, the doctor decided to send us in an ambulance. Vada was not impressed, and did not appreciate them trying to put in an IV “just in case”. Luckily, that was the worst part of the whole ordeal, and other than a crappy night of sleep, we all survived. We got back home on Wednesday night, about 24 hours after we left. She’s now on a daily dose of Flovent for the foreseeable future, to hopefully prevent any more attacks.

I made Chris take a couple pictures, just for the record. It felt a little yucky, but I suppose we want to remember the rough times as much as the good times.

not pictures of vada

Okay, this isn’t Vada-related, but I had to share these photos. I took Trudy for an early walk the other day, and saw this pair of mating slugs dangling from a porch post when we got back. Holy cow! I have no idea what’s in that sac underneath them, and I’m not sure I want to know…

the chickens on sunday

Filed under: Uncategorized — evelyn @ 6:43 am

On Sunday morning, we went to Saint Edwards State Park. We did a little hike – it took about 3 times as long as it should have, because I spent most of the time trying to convince Vada that she really could walk on her own two legs. And the rest of the time I was carrying her. Grrr. I think I’ll give up and try again next summer. After the so-called hike, we played in the playground.

In the afternoon, we hit up the children’s museum again. Vada loves the face painting – she did her own face, and mine!

just us chickens

Chris went down to visit with friends in LA, so Vada and I were on our own this weekend. On Saturday morning, we went to the farmer’s market. Raspberries are in season, and Vada loves for me to buy her a little box to munch on as we stroll around (hence the messy face here). After we were done, we stopped at a coffee shop to refuel.

In the evening, I decided it would be fun to pick up dinner and go to the dog park for a picnic. It was threatening to rain, and it did. Luckily we were in a shelter at the time, because it wasn’t your normal Seattle drizzle-type rain. It was more like a monsoon! Even in the center of the shelter, the wind was blowing hard enough to get us wet. I was really happy I’d brought a blanket from the car, and it was actually kinda fun to snuggle up and wait for the rain to let up. I wanted to take a picture to remember the moment, and this was the best I could do.
